I've always loved making things; from cooking to book binding to recreation Titanic costumes—when I saw something I loved, I wanted to learn how to make it myself. So, back in 2011 when I'd graduated university and was looking at diving into the world of full time employment, I launched Humblebee & Me as a way to ensure I kept creating, even if I was spending my days in an office.
Humblebee & Me was definitely a bit of a hodge-podge in those early days; posts ranged from photos of my dog to last night's dinner to soap. As the years passed and I kept writing and creating, I narrowed my focus to what I was most excited about; DIY skin care and cosmetics. Much to my surprise (and delight!), lots of other people were really excited about these things, too, and Humblebee & Me grew.
In the years since Humblebee & Me launched I've taught workshops with Calgary's Beakerhead and Market Collective, appeared at Next Big Thing, and been featured by publications like Good Housekeeping and Redbook. My first book, Make it Up: The Essential Guide to DIY Makeup and Skin Care was released by Running Press in Philadelphia in December 2016.
As long as Humblebee & Me has been online, people have asked "can I buy this from you?", and I'm pleased to say that yes—now you can! The store side of Humblebee is going to take some time to grow, and I'll never have every product on the blog available (that would be well over 800 unique items!), but I hope to offer my favourites here for those of you who aren't keen on the DIY angle of skin care, but still want high quality, hand made skin care and cosmetics.
